Ahhh, Colombia. Musically, you have very, very little to offer the world. Basically, you’re major contributions in the past 10 years have been re-hashed reggaeton, Shakira and some country shit with lots of accordians and various-sized guitars.

Yet rock, disco, house and probably many other entire genres of music would never exist without your most important natural export. SO I guess that redeems you.

Most of this Colombia-(s)inspired mix was stitched together in the jungles of Colombia last month, where I was imprisoned by FARC left-wing guerillas as a P.O.W and resident DJ. The news of Michael Jackson’s death really shook them up, and they released me in a moment of reflection. R.I.P.M.J.

I have such a love/hate relationship with Argentina. I love everything about it, except the cold weather and the fact they threw me in prison once. Oh, and I also hate their fanatical devotion to tech/prog/minimal house. So this “Buenos Aires-inspired” mix is actually inspired solely by the fast internet connection provided in Buenos Aires hotels. It has nothing to do with their 2002/03 music tastes. Rio de Janeiro is a marvellous city. Beautiful tanned people. Magnificent scenery. Drinking beers on the beach is practically mandated by local bylaw. A big bag of South America’s most famous export* will set you back a princely AUD$19. Or so I’m told.

But the internet is slow and expensive. Not good for downloading MP3s in the fashion I’ve become accustomed. It took my contact in the Bolivian paramilitaries about 4 months to get the bootleg CDs to me I ordered, meaning this mix comes to you after lengthy delay. I’m sure you’ll understand.

Well I’m glad THAT’S over. Many listeners may not know, but as my day-job I moonlight as a charismatic U.S Senator from the state of Illinois. And I was recently elected president of the United States. Who knew that would turn into such a big time-suck?

Anyway, I’m back at the TOMMYK mixing desk, but not for long… New Years 2009, I’m heading overseas to scout for un-signed Victoria’s Secret models and Baile Funk M.C talent in the favelas of Rio De Janeiro.

No for realz, I am actually moving to Rio. So let’s get this Sydney-side synth out while it lasts, before I expand the Lords into a trans-Pacific tag-team and import/export conglomerate. There’s focus on the “import”.
